150 ARRESTED IN DRUG-DEALING SWEEP
Two downtown police divisions joined forces to sweep alleged drug
dealers off the streets and out of parks --and to keep them from
migrating to another part of the city.
High-ranking officers from 14 Division and 51 Division said they
devised the plan to "capture displaced drug dealers" after it became
apparent that alleged dealers who were busted in one part of Toronto
would simply move their business to another.
This time around, undercover officers jointly targeted the areas of
Parkdale and Bloor and Lansdowne in the west end, and Church and
Seaton streets and Regent Park over a five-week period, ending this weekend.
A total of 150 people were arrested and charged, and hundreds of
thousands of dollars worth of drugs -- mostly crack cocaine, but also
marijuana and GHB -- were seized.
