DRUGS: ONE STUDENT BEING NABBED EVERY MONTH

Kota Kinabalu: Police are worried that at least one student ends up
being caught for drugs every month here.

In light of this, Acting City Police Chief, Supt Rowell Marong said
police are going the extra mile to work with schools and higher
learning institutions to stem the problem.

He said drug dealers targeted students because they were easier to
influence. "Youths are favourite picks for drug dealers to be
potential customers because they are vulnerable," he said, adding
police detained five drug addicts on average daily.

Meanwhile, he said police arrested a drug dealer and seized about
RM20,000 worth of drugs, mostly pills, in a raid at the Bunga Raja
housing area in Kolombong, Monday.

Among the drugs seized from the 24-year-old man from Johor were 22gm
of Ketamine, 159 Ecstasy pills and 50 Eramin-5 pills. The items, kept
in a safe box, were meant for distribution at entertainment outlets here.

"The drugs were each sold for RM50 and above," he told reporters at
the Karamunsing police station, Tuesday.

Also seized by the raiding team led by Insp Abd Aziz Abd Hashim were
four bank cards, five mobile phones, RM500, S$221 and a Honda Civic car.

He said police believe the drugs were sent over from Johor, adding
the suspect has been in operation here for about a year.

Investigations have been framed under Section 39B of the Dangerous
Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence.
