OVER THE TOP

Editor: The letter from Tony Smith (The Times, June 13) was over the
top. He suggests that the gangs here in Canada will somehow take over
the military like they do in Mexico.

He goes on to say that judges will be either killed or bribed when
someone is charged with drug offences. This is nonsense.

We live in a parliamentary democracy here in Canada. I have no fear
that our society would degenerate into the corrupt backwater that he describes.

I challenge him to bring us a shred of evidence that our country is
heading in that direction. Perhaps Mr. Smith should put down his
"smokes" and get some fresh air.
