LEGALIZE POT AND LET THE PROFITS FLOW INTO GOVERNMENT COFFERS
I agree with Alan Ferguson (Opinion, June 3) that marijuana
prohibition contributes to the enrichment of criminal organizations.
When legalized, the profits and taxes collected will benefit the
government and be denied to crime syndicates.
Prohibition seriously undermines respect for the law. There are so
many people using marijuana -- professionals, parents, community
contributors and taxpayers.
These people aren't criminals, but for the antiquated law. They are
reasonable people making decisions regarding the integrity of their
minds and bodies and choosing to use marijuana.
The biggest impediment to Canada stepping forward is the intractable
opposition from the United States. Eventually, even America's resolve
for prohibition will break down.
