PROHIBITION IS WRONG FOR MARIJUANA, TOO
In response to "N.C. hasn't
let go of Prohibitionist attitude" (June 6 For the record):
David J. Hanson makes the point that prohibition was a cure worse than
the disease. But he doesn't mention the parallels between alcohol
prohibition and today's draconian drug laws.
Laws against marijuana and other recreational drugs cause more harm
than the drugs themselves. One problem caused is artificially high
prices, which contribute to the crime associated with illegal drugs.
Legalization of recreational drugs is something we should pursue for
the same reason alcohol is legal.
