LONG-TERM STRATEGY
Insite was brought into being for all the right reasons, and we are
certainly better off with it. But it seems to be nothing more than triage.
If we are serious about helping people with addictions, there should
be a comprehensive, long-term strategy in place to support addicts in
regaining control over their lives.
The stated rationale for keeping the facility open is that addiction
is an illness and should be treated as a medical condition.
Malaria is also an illness, but we don't provide its victims with a
safe place to continue being bitten by mosquitoes.
