TIME TO STOP TALKING ABOUT HOFFMAN CASE
As a member of a family with several generations in law enforcement, I
have to weigh in on the Rachel Hoffman tragedy. My family knows
personally the harm misguided, sick or downright evil people can do,
but we also recognize that sometimes the people we depend on to
protect us can themselves be misguided, too.
Cops are just people, imperfect in judgment, and therefore capable of
making mistakes. Involving a young, so obviously immature and
oblivious coed as bait in the drug and gun bust of two violent
criminals was a horrible mistake. I'm sure the officers involved in
this travesty are devastated and riddled by guilt, but blaming the
victim - and in her death, Ms. Hoffman was only the victim - is
ignorant at best and downright cruel at worst.
So please, no more letters claiming this poor young girl's stupid
amateur, small-time drug dealing to college buddies somehow justifies
her use as a pawn in a very deadly game of cat and mouse. Don't give
any more smug, self-righteous and inhumane letter writers a public
venue in the Democrat.
Enough is enough.
