SHOTGUN, DOPE SEIZED FROM COP'S WRECKED BMW
Off-Duty Constable Already Faces Charges In Fiery Crash
EDMONTON - A shotgun and marijuana were seized from the car belonging
to an off-duty Edmonton constable accused of causing a fiery crash
while intoxicated.
Edmonton police spokesman Jeff Wuite confirmed Friday that a personal
shotgun and "a small amount" of marijuana were seized from Const.
Douglas Brown's BMW following a crash last Sunday.
Brown is accused of running a red light and T-boning a pickup truck,
injuring several people.
The shotgun was found in the trunk of Brown's BMW and was properly
stored. No charges will be laid, Wuite said.
"There are criteria that need to be met for the safe transportation of
firearms, and this met all of those criteria," he said, adding that
such criteria could include that the gun be unloaded, trigger-locked
and separated from ammunition.
Police are investigating who was carrying the marijuana, Wuite
said.
Brown, 29, faces five counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm,
five counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and one count of
driving with a blood alcohol level over .08.
Police allege Brown was driving south on 75th Street near the Whitemud
overpass when his car collided with the driver's side of a pickup
truck attempting to turn left. The truck overturned before it burst
into flames.
Brown, a three-year veteran of the force, has been suspended with pay
from his job.
