$10 MILLION FOR ADDICTS
The federal government has pledged $10 million to help treat
Vancouver's drug addicts.
The money, which will be doled out over five years, was announced
yesterday in Ottawa by Health Minister Tony Clement.
New services will include a 12-member Assertive Community Treatment
team to serve 70 to 75 clients with severe functional impairments who
don't access traditional mental-health and addiction services.
Also on tap are 20 new transitional treatment beds for drug-addicted women.
Both initiatives are aimed at the Downtown Eastside.
