COMMUNITY LOOKS AT DEVASTATION OF METH ADDICTION

Methamphetamine, also known as crystal meth, is becoming the drug of
choice for many young people, with devastating consequences.

In an effort to provide awareness, education, and tips for prevention,
the City of Abbotsford is hosting a Community Forum on Crystal Meth on
Thursday, Jan. 18, in the MCA Auditorium. Mayor George Ferguson and
John Les, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, invite all
to this informative evening.

The format is an opportunity for parents, youth, individuals and
community groups to learn about the negative consequences of crystal
meth addiction and to take away tools for prevention. It is moderated
by Milt Walker, executive director of Kinghaven Peardonville House
Society.

Angela Marshall, youth and family therapist, will give a frank
discussion to increase awareness and understanding of the devastating
effects of crystal meth.

The forum features a panel of speakers with first hand knowledge on
crystal meth use, including a judge, physician, addictions specialist,
counsellor, police, school district representative and a recovering
crystal meth user.

A short DVD presentation of Death by Jib, a local production about a
crystal meth use, will be showcased.
