SAFE-INJECTION SITE WOULD SUIT OAK BAY

Re: "World too unsafe for kids to play in," April 29.

The author writes of the condoms and needles, representative of the
"sex, violence and drugs that have become normalized on television
and the Internet" that prevent our children from partaking in
unsupervised outdoor play.

Part of the solution can be found in an article printed the same day
as the letter. The article, "Safe injection supporters argue for
program in court," shows that Victoria is not the only city in Canada
in need of more street safety.

I would like to suggest that a permanent home be found for Victoria's
needle exchange, the fate of which has been in question. I would also
l suggest that we provide a safe-injection site in Victoria in which
people can safely use drugs and access social services. The
provincial government should have jurisdiction over the site.

Just in case you were wondering where to put all these services, I
have one more suggestion: Put it in my backyard.
