WHAT ARE JUDGES THINKING?

Judges in the Canadian justice system have been far too tolerant, to
the point where some people just about get away with killing people
and the punishment they get is a slap on the wrist.

Just look at the sentences handed down in drunk driving cases. Last
week the killer of Yan Zhang was sentenced to three years and 10 days
after getting credit for pre-trial custody.

Zhang's three-year old son will be mentally impaired and probably in a
wheelchair for the rest of his life.

Another major concern in our society is drugs.

Now the Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that "completely random"
drug searches breach privacy provisions under the Charter of Rights
and Freedoms and so police cannot use sniffer dogs in schools, bus
stations, etc., unless they have solid leads.

What are they thinking? How is this going to help our young people?
How will this help prevent drugs from being distributed? Innocent
people would not object to this, only people who have something to
hide.

Let us hope that Parliament will do something to reverse the effect of
this ridiculous ruling.

Surely, some legislation can be passed to help our police forces do
their jobs instead of tying their hands. With our revolving-door
system where the perpetrators get released on bail before the police
have done their paperwork, our police forces do not need any more
restrictions placed on them.
