POLICE SHOULD BE ALLOWED RANDOM SEARCHES

Sir: Re: The article "Search deemed unlawful" (The Observer, April 26,
2008).

It should be the right of any police officer to go into a school and
have a sweep for drugs, guns, etc., whenever they choose, without
notifying a principal, teacher, janitor or anyone else.

Ask yourself: If one of your children got drugs through a student or
otherwise who was bringing them to school, would you be happy with the
results? I don't think so.

The reason I said that police officers should go into schools for a
sweep when they chose is because they have a look at guns being
brought to school. In school is where our children who will be the men
and women of tomorrow start using drugs. Most of the principals turn a
deaf ear in case it could be a difficult situation for them later.

For gosh sakes, smarten up and let the police handle this problem
before your child is caught up in using drugs and could possibly
commit suicide, kill someone else or rob you blind or anyone else they
can find to feed their habit. If you love your child as much as the
day he was born, you will personally see to it by having the police
come into the school and check for drugs, guns, etc.

Let them do their job so you don't shed tears later.

Write to Prime Minister Harper at pm@pm.gc.ca and tell him what you
think before your son or daughter is hooked by one of the ones who
bring drugs to school. It is your duty to love and protect your child
and to assist the police in doing so. If you don't do it now, don't
cry later.

Look at the statistics and have a small peek at janitors, teachers and
principals who have been involved in bringing drugs into school. You
must not stand back and let this happen. Did your child attend the
school when the teenager was caught in school with drugs on the sweep?
Do you want him to be the next user and cause havoc in your family?

On top of this I firmly believe that every person that is supervising
children in any fashion should have a criminal check before being
hired and also the ones that are working.

Maybe the family was a little embarrassed at having their member
caught with illegal drugs in the sweep, but its better to catch him
now than have something happen to him or her. You should be saying
thank you to the police for doing the sweep and finding this if you
were a parent at all.

You can't be a responsible parent if you can't let the police do their
work. You can sit in church, you can go to the hotel and get drunk,
but you don't love your child unless you are willing to let the police
step in when they are needed.

Police should always be considered as an extended member of the family
to assist you in saving your child.
