LIGHTEN UP OVER WEED
The malaise that causes bureaucrats to be unreasonable and inflexible
about vanity licence plates appears contagious and spreading fast.
New Brunswick's licence plate police wouldn't let a woman get a plate
spelling her maiden name -- Weed -- because it could be perceived as a
reference to marijuana.
A cursory search of the phone book indicates there are plenty of other
last names that might not pass the bureaucratic smell test, including
Grass, Green, Roach, High, Blunt and Budd.
The notion a word on a licence plate will encourage illegal drug use
is outlandish. The fact bureaucrats can prevent someone from putting
their name on a vanity plate is absurd.
Licence plate police everywhere should lighten up.
