THE LIBERALS ARE CONFUSED ON DRUGS
Re: Needles And The Damage Done, March 31.
It seems my honourable colleague, Liberal Senator Larry Campbell, is
prepared to go to prison so that Vancouver drug addicts can continue
to kill themselves. Talk about misplaced priorities.
Last year, the Conservative government launched a $64-million National
Anti-Drug Strategy to crack down on gangs, combat illegal drug
production and treat illicit drug dependency.
And last month, our government launched a mass media campaign to keep
teenagers away from drugs. The government of Canada hasn't run such an
anti-drug campaign in nearly 20 years.
Senator Campbell believes in drug legalization and enabling drug
users. Conservatives believe in getting tough on drug crimes, hiring
more police and helping drug addicts kick the habit. Senator Campbell
calls Conservatives "dinosaurs," but Liberal MP Jim Karygiannis wants
to get tough on the marijuana grow houses that operate in his
Scarborough Ontario riding.
Senator Campbell should tell Canadians if he considers Mr. Karygiannis
to be a dinosaur. And Stephane Dion should tell Canadians which
Liberal -- Senator Campbell or Mr. Karygiannis -- speaks for his party
when it comes to drug crime.
