WRONGHEADED LAWMAKERS
I was elated when I saw the latest marijuana story in the Monitor
("House votes to relax law for marijuana," front page, March 19). It
is good to see common sense in action.
Then I read the fine print. The governor has made it clear how he
feels: No.
I'd like to say a few words to the governor and his supporters,
especially those among you who think of yourselves as Christians. You
say you don't want to send the wrong message to the kids. But those
kids are smarter than you seem to think they are. A lot of them have
experienced both alcohol and marijuana, and many of them know when
their elders are playing loose with the facts.
Does it mean nothing to you that many intelligent and educated people
are against marijuana prohibition ? Alcohol is in and marijuana is out
because most of you lawmakers drink, and you don't want to upset the
economic status quo which you have come to cherish so deeply.
Though alcohol is well known to be the most dangerous drug on the
planet, still you persist. Your attitude is hurting a lot of good
people. Partaking of marijuana is an experience. How can you forbid an
experience when you don't even know what it is that you are forbidding?
