WORTHAM ISD TRUSTEES HEAR MEXIA 'DRUG DOG PROGRAM'
WORTHAM - The Wortham Independent School District, interested in
adopting a drug-fee program, heard a presentation from the "Drug Dog
Program" in the Mexia Police Department (PD).
Dog handler Thomas Sinclair of the Mexia PD, made the presentation
during a meeting of the Wortham School Board. Officer Sinclair told
Wortham trustees that, "We have a Drug Dog Program which is offered
to all area cities and schools." Such a program has found varying
degrees of success, both on the city level and in the schools.
In addition to hearing the Mexia Officer's presentation, Wortham ISD
trustees heard from trustee Jeff Jones, concerning progress on the
Kindergarten and first-grade facility repairs, and actions by the
Facilities Committee.
Also at the meeting, held in the high school library, the board
approved a budget amendment; the board election was set for May 10
with Places 5, 6 and 7 - April Kofnovec, Jeff Jones and James
Sessions - up for the vote; approved a joint election agreement with
the City of Wortham, and okayed the 2008-2009 School Calendar (to
later be available for review with campus principals).
In other action, the school board tabled the campus improvement
plans; okayed a board policy; cast unanimous ballots to re-elect
Sarah Lane to the Region 12 Education Service Center's advisory
board, and extended administrative contracts for Mrs.
Jantzen, Coach Gillen, Mrs. Lingor and to Mrs. Henson. A two-year
term contract went to Mrs. Lambert.
The Property and Casualty Insurance contract was renewed with the
Texas Association of School Boards (TASB).
Superintendent Albert Armer was authorized to contract for
electrical energy services through the Heart of Texas Council of
Governments (HOTCOG) Aggregation/LPB Energy. However, such contracts
would be contingent upon obtaining "favorable prices," an ISD
spokesperson reminded.
All trustees attended the meeting. They are James Sessions, Jeff
Jones, April Kofnovec, Brent Jones, Paul Collins, Bill Capers and
Scott Spencer.
