NEEDLE EXCHANGE WORTH SAVING

The United Nations recommends harm reduction programs in dealing with
illicit drug users and the evidence is they work.

Safe injection sites work better than needle exchanges. Vancouver has
InSite and they exist worldwide. Business and neighbours, once
opposed, now support the program. Needles no longer litter the
streets, most injections occur behind closed doors and there is better
access to services.

The Victoria needle exchange is three blocks from the proposed new
location, so users are already there.

I walk past St. Andrew's Elementary School and parents already pick up
their children at the door. They see drug users now.

Perhaps the needle exchange hours could be adjusted to open after
students have gone home for the day.
