THIS IS ONE ADDICTION THAT SHOULD BE VERY TREATABLE

As most folks know by now, using the Internet can be highly addictive.
So it comes as little surprise that an editorial in the American
Journal of Psychiatry is calling for Internet addiction to be added to
the profession's official guidebook of mental disorders.

It's not just young people who appear to be susceptible to the online
cravings manifested by this compulsive-impulsive affliction.

Studies suggest middle-aged women who use computers as they would
drugs -- to escape reality -- are a large part of the problem.

And we are sure it won't be long before B.C. health authorities start
to take the issue more seriously.

Let's hope, however, that they try to actually wean people off the
addiction -- rather than simply setting up a series of "safe computer
sites" at taxpayer expense.
