20-YEAR-OLD PRISONER DIES OF SUSPECTED DRUG OVERDOSE
The RCMP and the coroners' service are investigating the death of a
20-year-old inmate at the maximum security Fraser Regional
Correctional Centre.
Prison officials believe the inmate, found dead Friday, died of an
overdose of street drugs.
B.C. Corrections official Lisa Lapointe said the prisoner's identity
and reason for being imprisoned would not be released.
Smuggling of drugs into B.C. prisons and penitentiaries is a
continuing problem leading to gang conflicts inside prisons, according
to news reports earlier this year.
