VIHA IS ACTING LIKE A BULLY
As a parent of a Grade 6 student who attends St. Andrew's Elementary
School, I try to teach my child that one of the ways to stop a bully
is to confront and challenge the bully. It is this that I would like
to point out to the bully, Vancouver Island Health Authority. It
should be concerned with the health of the whole community, not just
one segment.
Once again, we see VIHA making decisions without community
consultation, in secret, and not willing to sit down and discuss. This
pattern has gone on in a number of situations. The northern hospital
fiasco, the inability to offer any constructive suggestions around
Laurel House and the recent upheaval at Mount St. Mary's speak to
these bullying tactics.
It is time that the people tell VIHA what we want instead of it
imposing a narrow agenda. Placing a needle exchange in close proximity
to St. Andrew's and the Victoria Conservatory of Music, without
consulting either institution, is an act of a bully.
