DRUG TEMPTS USERS INTO RISKY SEX, POLICE WARN

Police in B.C. are warning Canadian teens that a relatively new
designer drug -- dubbed foxy methoxy -- has crept into the mainstream,
and can draw its users into sexual temptation.

RCMP Sgt. Scott Rintoul, a drug awareness officer, said foxy first
appeared around 2000 and is a dangerous sensual drug, much like the
more popular club drug ecstasy.

"You're at risk for sexually transmitted infections," Rintoul said.
"You're at risk for having sex with people you know nothing about."

Foxy is a tryptamine hallucinogen sold in powder form or as pills with
designs on them. Magic mushrooms are also in the tryptamine family.

Tryptamines are not regulated in Canada as they are in the United
States, New Zealand and Australia because the drugs are not commonly
used in Canada.

Rintoul said he suspects labs in Vancouver are producing and shipping
the drug.

"Calgary RCMP, twice that I know of, have intercepted shipments of
20,000 to 40,000 tablets of foxy heading east, to perhaps Ontario,"
said Rintoul. "That gives us an idea that it's probably being made
here."

Foxy has appeared occasionally on the RCMP radar since 2000, but
emerged more prominently in 2007, along with six other new drugs --
such as 2C-I and TMA-2, both psychedelics.
