A WASTEFUL WAR ON DRUGS

The idea that there is no "safe" amount of any illegal drug is
patently false. Take the case of marijuana. Canadians have a Charter
right to access marijuana for medical purposes because the science
proves that it has therapeutic benefits. If an immune-compromised
person living with HIV/AIDS uses marijuana to enhance his health, how
can the exact same plant, for an illegal user, be impossible to use safely?

The government has studied marijuana extensively over the last 30
years. The studies show that marijuana use is basically safe for the
overwhelming majority of persons. Tragically, Tony Clement's
statements demonstrate exactly why youth primarily listen to their
friends about drugs. The government has put out fear-mongering
propaganda to young people about drugs for decades, and Minister
Clement now apparently will spend millions on more of the same. What a waste.
