NOTHING WRONG WITH KEEPING INTOXICATED DRIVERS OFF ROADS
Re: Pot smell not grounds for search, court rules (SP, Feb. 13).
Isn't the smell of
alcohol in a vehicle accepted to initiate a further search?
If it has to be noticed on the driver's breath, can't the officer
check this if he smells pot in the vehicle? And no, it doesn't smell
the same as tobacco and it does take a few minutes and a cigarette to
mask it on one's breath, I'm told.
I'm not in favour of an arrest for simple pot possession but I am in
favour of stopping intoxicated drivers.
