D.A.R.E. DOESN'T WORK

Re: Wendy Dager's Feb 14 commentary, "Stay out of my space":

Dager might care to know D.A.R.E. resorts to soliciting to continue
its program because it has been a proven failure. People, schools and
towns have rejected funding, while police enjoy the job security.

Nearly every study, including government studies, shows D.A.R.E.,
including the revamped model, is a failure and may be causing more
drug use than no program at all. One reason DARE fails is because it
teaches lies, half-truths and discredited reefer madness propaganda.
One example: when youth finds out that cannabis (marijuana) is less
harmful and addictive than taught, they think honest hard drugs are
also not so addictive, causing grave results.

Contributing to D.A.R.E. perpetuates failure. Money should be spent on
honest programs proven effective at protecting children.
