GROW-OP RULING SHOWS NEED FOR JUSTICE SYSTEM OVERHAUL
The Editor,
Re: "Appeal grow-op ruling: Farnworth," the Now, February 8.
It was shocking to read Justice Catherine Bruce let the pot grower
criminal go scott free. Our police officers put themselves in
dangerous situations when they go after these drug criminals, but,
unfortunately, the justice system let those criminals go free based on
small technicality.
Even if police made small mistakes the justice system should recognize
that person charged was a criminal and involved in illegal pot growing
activity. Such a criminal should still be prosecuted and sentenced.
Otherwise the justice system is demoralizing the police force.
Often we read news criticizing police forces whenever there are
gangland murders, etc. But it is the justice system that fails the
efforts of our police force. Most of the gang murder victims were
arrested and charged many times, but the justice system either set
them free or gave them very light sentences. We should seriously look
at and make changes to our justice system and not let these criminals
go scott free.
