FOLLOW THE RULES
I fully support the decision of Justice Catherine Bruce.
Van Dung Cao should have been properly apprehended and prosecuted,
but the operative word here is "properly."
A police system without checks and rules is inherently dangerous to
all of our civil liberties.
If our police are being forced into dangerous situations beyond their
risk level, then this should be addressed. But rules are rules, and
nobody should follow them more closely than those empowered to enforce them.
Justice Bruce was faced with an unfortunate situation. She has shown
mettle by ensuring the system that apprehends criminals is not itself
breaking the rules by breaching the rights of the citizens it protects.
This case had its price, but the payment needed to be made.
