POT USE STILL DANGEROUS
Re: Persecuting the prince (editorial, Feb. 6).
It really bothers me that people in the media continue to be unaware
of the very real dangers of marijuana usage.
Rodney Venis writes: "Mr. Emery sold the seeds of a plant that ... is
neither as dangerous nor as addictive as, say, over-the-counter,
codeine-laced cough syrup or a bottle of wine."
On top of the acknowledged physical dangers of smoking pot, it is now
recognized that marijuana use can lead to short-term and even
long-term psychosis. In other words, schizophrenia.
One in five people are known to be in a gene pool that is extremely
susceptible to marijuana's hullucinatory effects. Your neighbour may
be able to indulge in smoking the weed relatively safely, but you
just may end up in the confines of a psyche ward. In other words,
it's a crapshoot.
And ask anyone who's toked for any length of time whether pot is
addictive and the honest ones will invariably reply, "yes."
