NOBODY NOSE BETTER THAN THESE TOP DOGS
A SCHOOL has been given the all-clear by two law enforcement
specialists with a nose for trouble.
Scruffy and Bouncer, a pair of Northumbria Police drugs dogs, visited
Coquet High School in Amble.
Headteacher Paul Allen invited the police pooches as part of a
continuous programme to educate students on the dangers of drug abuse.
After meeting pupils and staff and putting their powerful noses to
work, Scruffy and Bouncer were pleased to report Coquet High as drugs free.
Mr Allen said: "It is important that Coquet High School gives a clear
message that drugs will not be tolerated in the school and that the
only sensible choice is that students make an informed decision and
say no to drugs.
"We are seeking to work with young people by talking openly about
drugs so that they choose to have a positive lifestyle. I am pleased
to say that Coquet High School does not have a drugs problem and that
the school was found to be free of drugs on the two occasions that
the drugs dogs visited the school."
The school's youth team, pastoral staff and personal, health and
social education teachers work closely together to raise students'
awareness of the decisions they need to make to live a healthy life.
Coquet High is also working with a group called SORTED, a specialist
substance misuse service which discusses the dangers of drug taking
with young people and helps them through issues on an individual basis.
