PRISONERS LOSE RIGHTS

I have no problem with Craig Jones of the John Howard Society speaking
of privacy rights when it comes to upstanding, honest, hard-working
citizens.

But if you are in jail for illegal activities that harm society, you
aren't entitled to the same rights as ordinary citizens.

How do we encourage prisoners to become future responsible citizens,
if there is no deterrent for them to rethink the activities that got
them incarcerated?

If you break the law, part of the price should be that you lose the
same privacy rights or privileges, including the right to vote, until
released.

Of course, everyone should be treated humanely. But allowing drugs to
be used inside prisons is not humane either.

If we continue to allow access to drugs by refusing to screen people
coming into the prisons, we are doing neither the prisoners nor
society any good.
