The news clipping service of the Media Awareness Project is in need of
editors.
As the major news clipping service covering drug policy, MAP receives
between 50 and 150 news clippings from many newshawks every day.
These are processed by an editing/posting team that insures the items are
properly formatted, contain the appropriate contact information, and are
ready for distribution and web posting to the thousands of daily readers
(including the many who respond to the clippings by writing Letters to the
Editor).
YOU are invited to join the editing/posting team. If you join you will
become part of a small group that works together for change. The editors
communicate via their own small mailing list. They also have a web based
staff room that allows complete control for each member of the flow of
items to them, and allows folks to go on and off duty at will.
Team members average between five and ten hours a week editing and posting
news items.
With more editors it will be easier to take care of peak news flows, like
we have had over the past few days, without creating a significant burden
on any one volunteer.
There is a learning curve, but new members are assisted by a mentoring team
of experienced editors.
Most team members use a specific email program for this work, Eudora, most
using the freeware version. This is because of it's superb filtering
abilities which help keep the email flow under control and because it is
the only email program we have found with a tool specifically designed for
the easy creation of headlines in ALL CAPS and Word Caps.
If you are interested in helping, the team stands ready to help you through
the technical issues.
