SUSPECTED MARIJUANA TRAFFICKER SHOT
NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - A Border Patrol agent fatally shot a suspected
marijuana trafficker Tuesday near the port of entry here after an
alleged rock attack on a second agent, a patrol spokesman said.
The shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m. after the man drove across
the border, saw two Border Patrol agents and tried to turn his vehicle
around and head back to Mexico, spokesman Rob Daniels said.
The man jumped from his vehicle after it became disabled, threw a rock
at one of the agents, prompting the other to fire, he said.
Daniels declined to say how many shots were fired.
The FBI was investigating the shooting, which occurred about six miles
east of the downtown Nogales port of entry.
