Thank you for printing Joanne Jacobs' column, "The sick should have access
to marijuana," (June 24).

This is an issue of compassion and sympathy, one that needs to be heard and
supported by the public. It is time to allow research to be done and
confirm what millions of people have already known - marijuana is a
medicine that does not deserve criminal prohibition. We must end the war on
marijuana and stop treating sick people like criminals.

I commend Ms. Jacobs and the San Jose Mercury News for taking a stand and
bringing the facts about marijuana to light.
