BIG COCAINE CACHE FOUND ON SHIP IN MIAMI RIVER
U.S. Customs agents seized a Belizean-registered cargo ship Wednesday and
arrested a crewman after discovering about 1,750 pounds of cocaine hidden
on board. "It's been a while since we've seen a shipment this large on the
Miami River," said Customs Service spokesman Michael Sheehan. The vessel
Nina-N was searched Tuesday shortly after docking on arrival from the
Haitian port of Mairagoane. Sniffer dogs discovered the cocaine, which had
a wholesale value of $13.5 million, hidden in the aft ballast tank. Agents
arrested the second engineer, a 30-year-old Grenadian, and seized the
vessel, Sheehan said.
