MAN CRITICAL OF SCHOOL FOR SUSPENDING HIS SON IN DRUG MATTER

LITCHFIELD, Ohio (AP) -- A man was cited for disorderly conduct at his
son's school after learning his son had been suspended for buying
marijuana, even though the 15-year-old reluctantly agreed to help police
get evidence against the seller.

James Dugan, told Tuesday that his son was suspended and might be expelled,
went to Buckeye High School's cafeteria and said to the 50 students there:
"This school is promoting the sale of drugs."

Dugan, if convicted of disorderly conduct, could be fined $250.

Dugan had phoned the high school, in Medina County about 30 miles southwest
of Cleveland, last week after catching his son smoking marijuana at home.
The boy had paid $5 at school for the hand-rolled marijuana cigarette.
Dugan wanted the drug seller pursued.

At the urging of vice principal Aloysius Marcinek, Dugan gave permission to
Medina County detectives to interview his son, fit him with a hidden
recording device and let him try to buy more marijuana.

Dugan said his son balked, not wanting to be seen as helping police in a
drug sting, but then agreed.

"He was doing this because I was forcing him to, to teach him a lesson,"
Dugan said.

Dugan said Marcinek also had promised not to punish the boy if he helped
detectives.

Superintendent Craig Bailey said the school's actions were consistent with
its zero-tolerance drug policy. Bailey said the district lacked supporting
evidence against a student suspected of selling the marijuana.
