BRING DRUG POLICIES UP TO DATE
The Feb. 13 article, "Portland's drug strategy sets an example for
Vancouver," is excellent.
I hope The Sun continues to provide information on the serious problem of
drug addiction.
The harm-reduction approach, including drug courts and alternative
treatments and facilities, and safe sites are all badly needed.
It is refreshing that The Sun is educating the public about these issues.
My son lost his best friend to an overdose and I live with the daily fear
of knowing that my son, who is also a heroin addict, may end up the same
way at far too early an age. Addiction is devastating to the family and
loved ones of an addict, but too often people forget the addicts themselves
are victims. If drug addiction is talked about and in the open, it is not
forgotten, and we will see change.
