BOMBS 'PART OF DRUG WAR' SAYS PAISLEY

DUP leader Ian Paisley believes the spate of pipe bomb attacks on Catholic
homes in the North is the the work of mafia drug gangs trying to gain
control of territory.

Dr Paisley said he did not think the attacks had anything to do with
politics but were the work of people trying to establish their hold on
parts of Northern Ireland and make them into mafia drug areas.

"I condemn it unconditionally," he told RTE in a programme broadcast
yesterday. "These people are creating havoc. It's only the mercy of God
that they haven't murdered anyone."

He said he couldn't stop loyalist paramilitaries from targeting Catholic
homes because he had no control over them.

Mr Paisley also accused the British and Irish governments of lying to
unionist politicans about the Good Friday Agreement and claimed they were
told that there would be no interference by Dublin. "However, that has
turned out to be a big fat lie," he claimed.
