BRITISH KIDS TOP DRUG TABLE

TEARAWAY British teenagers are the biggest boozers and drug-takers among
Europe's kids, a shocking report reveals.

A worrying 36 per cent of youngsters aged 15 and 16 have tried LSD,
cannabis or Ecstasy.

And Brits aged 16 to 24 are the most drunken and violent in Europe.

Experts blame permissive parents and politicians. They also criticised
William Hague for boasting of downing 14 pints a night in his youth.

Dr Robert Kendell, former chief medical officer for Scotland, said:
"Britain has the toughest legislation against possession of drugs but has
the worst record for use. Legislation is not working."

Researchers asked 2,000 youngsters from 230 schools about drinking, smoking
and drug use.

Answers from 50,000 teenagers in 31 European countries will be presented to
a conference in Sweden this week. Britain was top for drug-use AND drunkenness.

Dr Martin Plant, chief of Edinburgh's Alcohol and Health Research Centre,
said: "Drug taking is so common now it's seen as socially acceptable."
