AIRPORT DRUGS SEIZURE HAILED

FEDERAL police say a 4.7kg haul of ecstasy tablets seized at Perth Airport
at the weekend was a major breakthrough in targeting international drug
smugglers.

Luggage containing 19,000 designer drug tablets, estimated by police to
have a street value of $1 million, was seized after a Qantas flight arrived
on Saturday morning.

Australian Federal Police officer Cameron Mitter said the tablets had not
been concealed in the luggage and were picked up by X-ray as a result of
intelligence work by the AFP and Australian Customs.

British national Philip Campbell Grimwood, 41, was charged with importing a
prohibited drug and attempted possession when he appeared in Perth
Magistrate's Court on Saturday in relation to the discovery.
