INTERNET AND CRIME
Using the Internet to spread information about gangs or marijuana could be
a crime under legislation approved by a House judiciary committee.
The committee voted to make it a crime to put such information on the
Internet if it is intended to be used unlawfully. Relaying cannabis
information would be a misdemeanor. Transmitting gang information would be
a Class 4 felony.
The American Civil Liberties Union opposes the package, arguing the
penalties unconstitutionally target a type of free speech.
The bills are HB219 and HB228.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
