SPARKING CONTROVERSY

Re: Marijuana seized from Toronto AIDS patient, March 3.

Call me silly, but it seems to me that the travails that the police and
Crown are putting medicinal cannabis patient Jim Wakeford through are
designed to provoke public sympathy for him.

I can't logically explain it any other way.

Perhaps the politicians are hoping that the courts, who don't bow as
readily to US pressure, might be able to end this madness.

Certainly those in elective office can't stand to ever be seen as less
likely to listen to the seriously questionable drug policies of our
southern neighbours than to the pain of a sick and dying man.
