POLICE ARREST ALLEGED MID-LEVEL TEENAGE HEROIN DEALER

Members of the Valley Street Crime Unit and the Statewide Narcotics
Task Force arrested a Shelton teen Feb. 1 in the parking lot of the
Shelton Buck Stop Gas Station on Shelton Avenue.

They described the 17-year-old youth as a mid-level heroin dealer in
the Shelton area. Police did not identify him because of his youthful
offender status.

Advertisement Police agents moved in and arrested him following
surveillance and charged him with possession of narcotics, possession
of narcotics with intent to sell and possession of narcotics with
intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school.

Two elementary schools, Elizabeth Shelton and St. Lawrence School are
within a short distance from the gas station.

Police said the teen had 40 bags of heroin weighing 11.4 grams with a
street value of more than $400 in his possession.

He also was charged with violation of a protective order when police
discovered an order was in effect between him and one of the
passengers in his vehicle.

Bond was $110,000 for court Feb. 2.

Detective Sgt. Thomas Adams said the Valley Street Crime Unit
continues to investigate the case and expects to make more arrests in
the near future.

"We are determined to do all we can to take these dealers off the
streets and keep them away from our children," Adams said. "The
agents assigned to the unit are doing a tremendous job oat trying to
accomplish this. It is, however, disheartening to find that the
dealers we arrested are only children themselves."
