'JAIL ME' PLEADS DRUG ADDICT

A heroin addict asked magistrates in Wrexham to jail him so that he could
get help for his drug addiction.

Christopher Sides, 34, from Pentre Gwyn in Wrexham, admitted he had gone
shoplifting to raise money to pay for drugs.

His solicitor Peter Byrne said Sides had been told that anyone wanting
drugs treatment had to wait 6 to 8 months to get into a detoxification
centre - but in prison, he would be treated by specialists straightaway and
complete the course in three weeks.

Magistrates sentenced him to two months in custody.
