CANDIDATES REVEAL ACTION PLANS FOR WESTERN CROWN ST

Independent ward three candidate Anne Wood has voiced her support for
the removal of the Denison St methadone clinic.

Ms Wood has advocated a decentralised system of dispensing methadone,
with patients collecting their medication from their pharmacy.

``It costs a patient $10 a day to receive methadone through the
Denison St clinic,'' she said. ``But for those patients who choose
instead to receive their methadone from the local pharmacy, the costs
is only $4 per day. How much better would the system be if patients
could attend their local pharmacy for medication? Problems such as
those we are experiencing at present because of a concentration of
patients at the one location would be eased with a new decentralised
system.''

ALP ward three candidate Paul Myjavec has vowed to fast-track
strategies to relieve chronic traffic congestion in western Crown St.

If elected at this Saturday's by-election, Mr Myjavec said he would
push to expedite the proposed Gladstone Ave, Denison St intersection
construction to aid CBD traffic flows.

He said to reduce Crown St traffic by between 12 and 20 per cent
would help the western end become more viable and people friendly.

``To allow the cross movement of traffic between Denison St and
Gladstone Ave would help the Coniston, Mt St Thomas and Mangerton
community,'' he said.

``This is a top priority. For only $800,000, with $400,000 coming
from the RTA, we could take the first step to help the western end of
Crown St.''
