SHOULD PARENTS BE NOTIFIED IF COLLEGE STUDENTS HAVE DRUG TROUBLE?
Should colleges notify parents if their child gets in trouble with drugs or
alcohol?
Jonathan Glawe, KU student, Lawrence "I'd say if they're keeping their
grades up, I don't know if the parents need to know, but if it's affecting
their grades, then the parents should know."
Heather Ramaglia, teaching assistant, Lawrence "No, because they're in
college and on their own. They shouldn't have to answer to anyone else."
Rod Brown, dentist, Lawrence "I would say yes. If I'm going to be the
parent providing tuition to the child, I would want to know that kind of
thing."
Connie Creek, teacher, Kansas City, Kan. "As a parent of a college student,
I would say yeah, definitely. The thing is tricky because the kids might be
over 18, but financially they're still stuck with us."
