EX-ADDICTS HONOURED FOR WORK
Reformed drug users have received special recognition for their work in
regenerating Mangerton Park.
The Wollongong City Employment Training's unique work experience scheme -
the first program in Australia to be run for reformed drug users on the
methadone program - was highly commended in the Work for the Dole
Achievement Awards 2000 presented this week.
Participants built walking tracks, stairs and a causeway to assist with
drainage in the park.
Prime Minister John Howard said the work for the dole scheme was making a
real difference in schools, community centres, parklands, child-care,
sporting organisations and nursing homes.
