MAN GETS LIFE SENTENCE IN TEEN'S SHOOTING DEATH
Madison - A Milwaukee man has been sentenced to life in prison in
connection with the fatal shooting of a Madison teenager who tried to stop
a drug robbery.
Jurors deliberated about nine hours Thursday before finding Shawn A.
Beasley, 20, guilty on seven charges, including being party to first-degree
intentional homicide while armed, attempted homicide and armed robbery, in
the death of 13-year-old Adrian Gonzalez.
Dane County Circuit Judge Angela Bartell, at Beasley's request, immediately
imposed the mandatory term of life in prison.
Witnesses testified during the three-day trial this week that Beasley drove
to Madison last January with three other people to rob Luis Gonzalez of
cash and marijuana.
In Luis Gonzalez's apartment, Beasley shot him and then fatally shot his
younger brother, Adrian Gonzalez, who had confronted the fleeing Beasley,
witnesses said.
Beasley took the witness stand Wednesday and denied being in the Gonzalez
apartment and shooting the brothers.
Three people who allegedly were with Beasley all have pleaded guilty to
lesser charges or have plea agreements pending with the Dane County
district attorney's office.
