FEDERAL FUNDS TO SUPPORT DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAMS
Counties throughout California will receive about $20 million in new
federal funds to support substance abuse programs and will target
people served under Proposition 36, the voter-approved measure
focusing on treatment instead of imprisonment.
The funding includes an $11.9 million increase in funds for drug
testing, prevention and HIV/AIDS services for people in county
substance abuse programs.
It also includes more than $8 million for counties to use in the
treatment of individuals diagnosed with mental illness and substance
abuse, the office of Gov. Gray Davis announced Monday.
