1,600 POUNDS OF 'POT' SPURS DRIVER'S ARREST

WEST MEMPHIS -- Arkansas Highway Police officers arrested a California man
Tuesday at a weigh station in Crittenden County after they found an
estimated 1,600 pounds of marijuana hidden in a shipment of oranges and
lemons, authorities said.

The 29-year-old man, whose name had not been released Wednesday, was
arrested on a felony charge of illegal possession of a controlled substance
with intent to deliver. He was being held in the Crittenden County jail.

The driver was en route from Lindsey, Calif., to Johnstown, N.Y., when he
stopped at the Lehi weigh station near West Memphis. There, officers
discovered a discrepancy in the driver's recorded driving time. During a
search of the trailer, police said, they found 12 boxes of marijuana.
