WAR ON 'OXY'

There's a new drug in town, and it just might help to win the drug war,
if that's possible.

OxyContin is a prescription pain-killer. There are fears that "Oxy,"
with its morphone-like high when crushed, also will be tomorrow's crack
cocaine. If the threat is taken seriously, the war on "Oxy" will be
fought in pharmacies and doctor's offices, not on inner-city streets.

Maybe this will force Americans to look realistically, instead of
stereotypically, at who abuses drugs and who deals in them. Maybe saner
policies about prison time and rehabilitation will follow.
